Aperçu
The course aims to provide a solid and comprehensive education in philology, classical languages and literatures, Greek and Roman history, as well as the historical-literary and cultural phenomena related to Late Antiquity, both pagan and Judeo-Christian, according to the following goals:
a) Develop extensive and practical experience with the methods and tools of philological scholarship, acquire specialized knowledge of Greek and Latin languages and literatures, and attain a broad and precise mastery of ancient and late antique history, along with its historiography. A primary goal is also to understand the processes of transmission and reception of classical texts in medieval, modern, and contemporary cultures. The students will acquire knowledge through lectures, seminars and other activities requiring active student participation. Progress will be assessed through written tests and assignments during the course and before final exams, ensuring comprehension of texts and their historical-cultural connections.
b) Enhance the ability to interpret and reconstruct ancient historical and literary documentation in relation to different types of sources, including archaeological, epigraphic, and papyrological evidence.
c) Develop independent teaching and communication skills in the fields of philology, classical languages and literatures, and ancient and late antique history. Written assignments or seminar presentations involving the reading of ancient texts and the analysis of critical literature can serve as valuable teaching tools to guide students toward the challenging task of writing their thesis.
d) Foster autonomous reading and learning methods that enable further in-depth study and continuous academic development within their field of study.
e) Effectively use at least one European Union language, both in written and oral form.

Opportunités de carrière

Additionally, the program equips graduates with highly specialized skills that can be effectively applied in other professional fields and contexts, such as the cultural and publishing industries, as well as public and private institutions.
