Overview

Graduates in the Master’s Degree courses of the class must have acquired:
in-depth knowledge of the philosophical tradition and the ability to establish links between determinations of thought and historical periods; hermeneutical and critical evaluation skills, supported by adequate awareness of the problems related to the interpretation of texts and historiographical methodology;
sure ability to use the theoretical and methodological tools that allow autonomy of research, reflection and understanding, in the areas that affect human life in its relationship with the natural and social environment, including the aesthetic and religious dimension, as well as that of gender; sure ability to analyze the fundamental concepts of ethical, legal-political reflection and applied ethics;
developed analytical and logical-argumentative competence in relation to the different forms of knowledge and languages related to them, as well as the different modalities that characterize man’s expressive and communicative capacities;
sure ability to analyze and discuss theories and models of rationality (theoretical, practical, linguistic or communicative);
in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and methodological tools in the field of philosophy and history of the humanities and social sciences, as well as of the natural, physical and mathematical sciences;
use of the Italian language appropriate to the production of scientific texts proper to the discipline;
advanced knowledge of at least one language of the European Union other than Italian.

Career opportunities

PHILOSOPHER Function in a work context: The functions held by the philosopher are of various kinds: philosophical research activities; philosophical counseling; teaching and training activities (in high schools or other training institutes); drafting of scientific publications (essays, articles, monographs, etc.); promotion and dissemination of philosophical knowledge and its practical application; care of relations with national and international institutions in the field of research; participation in scientific debate (conferences, conventions, seminars, etc.); counselling in the field of educational and vocational guidance; care of the editorial choices of institutes or specialized magazines; do bibliographic research; take care of the communication of public or private bodies (e.g. press offices, communication, organization of events, promotion, etc.); manage and coordinate human resources.
In addition: a) can access the third level of university education (Post-Graduate Master’s Degree, PhD, Research Grants, etc.) and in the future embark on a career in research and university teaching; b) may apply for positions as teachers in upper secondary schools, subject to participation in the procedures announced by the Ministry of Education; c) can access, also through the attendance of any internships or special schools, the career of journalist or publicist; d) can contribute to occupying positions of responsibility in public and private administrations, as well as under the profile of the “specialist in human resources” (see above), under that of the operator of cultural heritage, of promoter of cultural events, of the expert in professional training, of the management of cultural institutes of Italy abroad, of the management of cultural institutes and foundations, of the management of penal institutions, etc.; e) may carry out cultural organisation and management activities within publishing houses or publishing services.

HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST Function in a work context: The functions covered by the human resources specialist consist of: a) operating in the field of personnel management within public and private administrations; b) facilitating and increasing the flexibility of the professional figures required from time to time by the Administrations, in relation to 1) the diversity and specificity of individual human resources; 2) the specific needs of society, public intervention and private undertakings; 3) counseling on the motivations and integration of the individual human resource in contexts of particular cultural, social and economic complexity; c) in occupying managerial positions in the Public Administration and in private companies, in the conservation of cultural heritage, in publishing and communication, in the management of scientific-cultural data;d) in the selection and recruitment of personnel (analysis of CVs, interviews with candidates, etc.);
e) in the management of human resources;
f) coordination of staff training (identification of employees’ training needs, development of training plans, etc.);
g) in the evaluation of staff performance;
h) in the collection and processing of data and information;
i) in the preparation of reports and documents, etc.
