Overview
The objective of the Study Course is to transmit knowledge and skills in the acquisition, processing and representation of basic data for the study of Earth Sciences in the context of the professional practice of the geologist, the activities of economic use of georesources, the service functions of the technical bodies of public administrations and scientific research.
Graduates in Geological Sciences, in addition to being familiar with the scientific method, must:i)Be in possession of the knowledge for the analysis of geological systems and processes; ii) Possess operational skills in the laboratory and in the field; iii) Be able to operate professionally for the acquisition of data in application areas such as: geological mapping, geological and geophysical surveys for the exploration of the subsoil, the retrieval of georesources (including water resources), the analysis and certification of geological materials, the collection of data necessary for the identification, mapping and zoning of geological hazards; iv) Possess the basic knowledge necessary to acquire, through subsequent training courses, skills in the field of research related to the exogenous and endogenous processes of the Earth System.

Career opportunities
Thanks to the skills acquired, graduates in Geological Sciences, upon passing the State Examination, can access the title of junior geologist to practice the profession. Furthermore, graduates can find employment in public bodies, laboratories and research centers, companies and professional firms, carrying out activities in various fields: management and protection of the environment, design of civil engineering works, geological surveying and mapping, geological and geophysical surveys for the exploration of the subsoil, retrieval and sustainable use of georesources and water resources, verification of slope stability, analysis and certification of geological materials (quality of stone materials and water), identification, mapping and zoning of geological hazards (seismic, volcanic, hydrogeological, coastal), methodologies and techniques for the acquisition and interpretation of geological and geophysical data.
Moreover, the first level graduate will have an adequate scientific preparation for access to Master’s Degree courses.
