Overview
The Science of Materials is a field of study and research focused on transforming the properties of naturally occurring materials to meet the demands of technological innovation and the needs of the production system. A materials scientist learns to understand, measure, and compare the structural, mechanical, electrical, optical, and chemical properties of materials and to design new materials with desired performance characteristics.
The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Materials Science and Technology (L-Sc.Mat.) at the University of Bari Aldo Moro is distinguished by its interdisciplinary and balanced approach between chemistry and physics, supported by elements of crystallography and biology, and based on solid mathematical knowledge. The program also aims to provide instrumental knowledge of the most innovative technologies in the field of material development and preparation.
The primary objective is to offer graduates a solid scientific and cultural education, enabling them to continue their studies in master’s degree programs or enter the workforce directly. In the coming years, the job market is expected to require a higher level of scientific qualification and a greater capacity for learning, even in more operational roles.
The program is divided into the following learning areas:
Basic education
Structure and characterization of materials
Material technologies
In addition to elective courses, internship activities, and a thesis project.
