Overview
The degree course in Obstetrics qualifies for the profession of Midwife. The course is taught in Italian and has limited access and provides adequate preparation in the basic and clinical disciplines related to the physiological and pathological processes to which preventive and therapeutic intervention is aimed. The practical training and clinical internship activity is carried out with the guidance of a tutor and coordinated by a teacher. As part of the professionalizing teaching activity, various activities are planned including: identifying physical, psychological and social needs and diagnosing the need for help and intervention for women in the various social and health areas, providing assistance to pregnant women, providing good information and giving advice regarding family planning problems according to the principle of responsible motherhood and fatherhood, carrying out reproductive health education interventions for couples and the community, establishing intervention strategies aimed at preventing genital neoplasms and STDs, The legal duration of the course of study, in accordance with Ministerial Decree 270/04, is three years, with mandatory attendance. Students have three exam sessions available. To be admitted to the final exam, it is necessary to have obtained all the CFU in the training activities provided for in the study plan, including those related to the professional internship activity. The final exam is organized, by decree of the Minister of Education, University and Research in agreement with the Ministers of Labor and Health, in two sessions defined at national level, the first of which, as a rule, is held in the period October-November and the second in March-April.

Graduates in Obstetrics who are regularly registered in the Professional Register can find employment in public and private, university, hospital and territorial health facilities, in obstetric and/or multi-specialist clinics. They can also provide home care, even as freelance professionals. Their professional activity can be practiced in Italy, in the countries of the European Union and in all countries where the equivalence of the qualification is recognized.
