Other requirements | Candidates in possession of a high school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad that is considered suitable may be admitted to the Degree Course in Dental Hygiene. Access to the Degree Course is limited in number according to Law no. 264 of 2 August 1999 and requires an admission exam consisting of a multiple-choice test. Overview
Graduates in Dental Hygiene must acquire the skills necessary to carry out dental health education activities and participate in primary prevention projects within the public health system. Graduates in Dental Hygiene collaborate in compiling the odontostomatological clinical record and are responsible for collecting technical-statistical data; they provide tartar removal and root planing as well as the topical application of various prophylactic means; they provide instruction on the various oral hygiene methods and on the use of diagnostic means suitable for highlighting bacterial plaque and dental patina, justifying the need for periodic clinical checks; they indicate the rules of rational nutrition for the purpose of protecting dental health; they carry out their professional activity in public or private health facilities, as employees or freelancers, on the recommendation of Dentists and Surgeons authorised to practice dentistry. The achievement of professional skills is achieved through theoretical and practical training that also includes the acquisition of behavioral skills and that is achieved in the specific work context of the profile, so as to guarantee, at the end of the training course, full mastery of all the necessary skills and their immediate usability in the work environment. Particular importance, as an integral and qualifying part of professional training, is given to practical training and clinical internship activity, carried out with the supervision and guidance of specifically assigned professional tutors and an internship coordinator.
